🔗 Share this article Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends. The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s. Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session. The Japanese slid over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight. The veteran finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
